No description
Steamtown is located in the Lackawanna Valley in Scranton, PA - the northeast part of the state
Since the early 1990s it has been a National Historic Site
Celebrating the history of railroading in America and in particular, the Lackawanna Railroad
One of the highlights is the #4012, more technically known as the 4-8-8-4 Big Boy
Built exclusivly for the Union Pacific, this is one of the last, if not the last, Big Boy in existence
It was the largest locomotive ever made and was designed to carry troop trains and coal over the Wasatch Mountains
The engine is so heavy that it must be moved ever year or so to prevent it from sinking into the ground and becoming stuck
However, the acid rain of the area has taken its toll on the #4012
From a distance, you can truly appreciate the size
