This doll was Mattel's extra gift to conventioneers in Pittsburgh in 1999.

Even the back of her box features the brunette doll, not the regular issue blonde.

Other than her hair, the doll itself is the same as the regular issue doll.

However, against the black gown, she's far more striking than her blonde counterpart.

Perhaps that's why Mattel eventually made a lemon blonde regular version as well.

In today's Barbie "language" she would be considered a Platinum Label doll.

There was also an invitation to one of the gala dinners that accompanied the doll.
