The Lincoln Hig…
The Lincoln Highway
PA's section of the Highway - the nation's first cross-country highway
As in most places along the road, it dips down sharply into a town, with a steep climb on the other side.
Another gas station, this one made of stone, which was common on the Highway.
Today, most of the gas stations are either abandoned or have been turned into small stores.
An old one-room stone house, located just above the gas station.
The road to the right is the entrance to Laurel Run State Park. Like most state parks, this one is hidden along the roadside.
A good view of how the Highway cut right through the mountains.
The lighthouse seen in the picture to the left is still standing. It escaped destruction in the 2001 fire.
Today, the area goes by its original name, Mt. Ararat.
If you look closely, you can see the original stone turret through the holes in the wooden lighthouse.
