Bethany's Doll…
Pennsylvania
Harrisburg
Harrisburg
Pennsylvania's state capitol
The Pennsylvania state capitol bulding in Harrisburg - front view - often called The Palace of Art.
On the top of the dome is the gold statue, Commonwealth. She was restored a few years ago to her original glory.
The entrance is marked by ornate lights, a theme that carries through the entire bulding.
Flanking the entrance are two sculptures by PA artist George Gray Barnard.
His works are considered some of the most detailed of the human form ever created.
The gold leaf entranceway ceiling leading into the rotunda
The floor is done in Mercer tile, with each tile representing a part of PA's history. These are the original tiles.
Inside the rotunda are a few of the pieces saved from the fire that burned the original capital building nearly 100 years ago.
The lights are deceptive - they produce an incredible amount of light for their size.
