The Lincoln Hig…
The Lincoln Highway
PA's section of the Highway - the nation's first cross-country highway
The last remaining cabin from Shirey's Lake View Motel which closed in 1988. Though the picture is taken from Rt. 30, this is actually the back of the cabin. The old Lincoln passes in front of the cabin behind the trees.
The Shirey's cabin with a small, but still drivable section of the old Lincoln on the right.
The cabin still has its green and white striped awning. The grass is also mowed around the cabin, helping to ensure it's well maintained.
This is the entrance to the old Jenner Pines Camping Park in Jennerstown. While there are cabins here, this is one of the first known sites (circa 1920) where travelers could camp in a secure area rather than simply along the side of the road.
A few of the original cabins are visible to the right, just beyond the original stone entranceway.
Abandoned church in Jennerstown
The town was named for Edward Jenner, of smallpox vaccination fame.
Though my camera couldn't capture it, the windows here are beautiful.
One of the original stone bridges that carried local roads over the Highway. This one is located just west of Stoystown.
